The Government of Colombia, this Tuesday, December 2, issued a statement in which it expresses its rejection of “any threat of external aggression” that undermines its integrity and sovereignty, in response to the statements of the US President, Donald Trump, who announced that his country is considering starting to carry out “attacks on the ground” when talking about military operations against alleged 'narcolanches'.
“We received with great concern the recent statements of the President of the United States, Donald J. Trum p, in which he suggests the possibility of carrying out military actions against Colombia under the argument of combating drug trafficking,” reads a statement published by the Colombian Foreign Ministry.
In the same way, the Colombian authorities reaffirmed their “commitment to peace, national sovereignty and respect for international law”, while, as a Latin American and Caribbean country, they rejected “any threat of external aggression that violates the dignity, integrity of the territory and the sovereignty of the Colombian people.”
“We urgently call for fraternity between Latin America and the Caribbean so that as sister Latin American peoples, union may prevail in the face of any attempt at external intervention that seeks to undermine sovereignty. Colombia is a people with deep roots that is building a future of prosperity and tranquility for the entire region,” the document concludes.
For his part, Colombian President Gustavo Petro, in a message on his X account, warned Donald Trump that attacking his country's sovereignty is equivalent to “declaring war, not damaging two centuries of diplomatic relations”.
“Without missiles, I have destroyed 18,400 laboratories in my government, come with me and I'll show you how to destroy them, a laboratory every 40 minutes,” he said.
