The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Colombia, Rosa Yolanda Villavicencio Mapy, said this Friday that “no State can carry out armed actions in foreign territory without express authorization.”
The Colombian Foreign Minister's statement comes in response to announcements by the President of the United States, Donald Trump, about possible anti-drug operations in the South American country.
Villavicencio warned that such behavior violates the Charter of the United Nations and stressed that the maneuvers of the United States in the Caribbean and the Pacific create risks for the legal order and constitute a precedent in a region recognized as a zone of peace.
According to what was published by the Sputnik agency, the minister recalled that “ignoring international obligations means undermining the foundations of the multilateral system” and stressed that Colombia confronts drug trafficking with a comprehensive strategy that takes into account social, economic and environmental dimensions.
