Colombian congresswoman Piedad Córdoba dies at 68 years of age

This Saturday, the congresswoman of the Historical Pact, Piedad Cordoba, died at 68 years of age.

According to local media, the congresswoman was found on the floor of her house by her escorts, who immediately transferred her to the nearest medical center where she died as a result of a heart attack.

Córdoba, was born in Medellín (Antioquia), on January 25, 1955. Daughter of a black father (Zabulón Córdoba, brother of Chocoano leader Diego Luis Córdoba) and a white mother (Lía Ruiz). He experienced discrimination firsthand.

Since adolescence, he began his social and political work in the marginalized communities of Medellín, he was a member of the Liberal Party.

Córdoba was characterized by being one of the most significant defenders of human rights and for her position of a peaceful solution to the armed conflict in Colombia.

As a congressman, Córdoba was one of the most prominent figures in the feminist movement in Latin America. Part of her parliamentary work was the promotion of laws to protect women's sexual and reproductive health, establish gender, race and ethnic equality, and against all forms of domestic violence and violence against women.
