Commission for Constitutional Reform discussed strategies for the country's development

In order to advance the modernization of the Constitution of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela of 1999, the National Commission for Constitutional Reform held its first meeting this Tuesday, February 25, in the Néstor Kirchner Hall, in the Miraflores Palace.
The activity was led by the president of the National Assembly (AN), Jorge Rodríguez; the president of the Republican Moral Council, Tarek William Saab; the first lady, Cilia Flores, and the Executive Vice President of the Republic, Delcy Rodríguez, who lead the main commissions.
These bodies discuss central issues such as the transformation, modernization and democratic expansion of Venezuela, the Principles and Values of the New Society, the general updating of the Constitution and the new economic model, respectively.
The President of the Republic, Nicolás Maduro insists on the need to move forward in a major national debate to modernize the Constitution of 1999, in which he calls on all sectors of society to participate.
Article 342 of the current Magna Carta stipulates that: Constitutional reform is aimed at a partial revision of this Constitution and the replacement of one or more of its norms that do not modify the structure and fundamental principles of the constitutional text.
The initiative to reform this Constitution may be taken by the National Assembly through an agreement approved by the vote of the majority of its members; the President of the Republic in the Council of Ministers; or a number of no less than 15 percent of registered voters and voters registered in the Civil and Electoral Registry who request it.
The meeting was attended by Judge Caryslia Rodríguez Rodríguez, Judge Tania D'Amelio, the President of the Electoral Power, Elvis Amoroso , the Sectorial Vice President of Security and Defense, G/J Vladimir Padrino López, and the Sectorial Vice President of Planning, Ricardo Menéndez.
Also present were the sectoral vice-president of Communication and Culture, Freddy Ñáñez, the deputy Nicolás Maduro Guerra, the Minister of Popular Power for Communes and Social Movements, Ángel Prado, the Minister for Culture, Ernesto Villegas, the Minister of Science and Technology, Gabriela Jiménez, the Minister of the Social Labor Process, Eduardo Piñate, and other authorities present to form the discussion tables of the commissions.
