The Venezuelan airline CONVIASA will directly connect South America with Asia through Russia, operating flights between Caracas and the Chinese city of Guangzhou, with a stopover in Moscow.
According to Venezolana de Televisión (VTV), the highest-capacity aircraft, the Airbus A340-600, will be used for this route. Caracas-Moscow, Vnukovo-Canton, operated every two weeks and considered by the entity itself as “one of its most ambitious routes to date”. The Caracas-Moscow-Guangzhou route is valued as strategic, as it materializes political and commercial agreements between the Governments of Venezuela, Russia and China.
The new itinerary was announced as part of the commemoration of the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Venezuela and China in 2024, reflecting the interest in strengthening relations between the South American nation and the East Slavic and Asian giants.
The areas of cooperation with China and Russia, which include civil aeronautics, demonstrate the capacity to cope with U.S. dominance, as CONVIASA is among the entities subject to enforcement measures by the U.S. Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC).
