A court in Ecuador has denied the request submitted by former Vice President Jorge Glas to leave the high-security prison where he is and be treated in an external hospital.

The request, based on the need to receive specialized medical treatment urgently, was declared inadmissible by Judge Jean Daniel Valverde this Sunday, following the filing of a habeas corpus appeal, in which Glas's lawyer said that his client is suffering from harmful conditions of detention and needs to be transferred to an external medical center.

In his decision, the magistrate determined that, based on the evidence examined, Glas's fundamental rights relating to his physical and psychological well-being or his right to health have not been violated.

However, Glas reported living under vexatious treatment, enduring constant psychological pressure and lacking adequate healthcare, even with the interruption of the supply of part of his medication.

Specialists and doctors urge immediate hospitalization in a health facility outside prison, warning of the seriousness of their condition.

The diagnosis details that the former vice-president suffers from at least eighteen pathologies, including hypertension, fibromyalgia, asthma and post-traumatic stress disorder, which require the daily administration of more than twenty drugs.
