The Coordinator for Peace, Sovereignty, Integration and Non-Interference (CPAZ) expressed its rejection of the so-called “temporary operation” and the deployment of United States Air Force personnel at the Manta Military Base, considering that it violates the Ecuadorian Constitution, which prohibits the installation of bases or foreign military presence for military purposes.
In a public statement, the organization recalled that more than 60% of citizens voted NO to the return of foreign military bases in the popular consultation of November 16 and warned that insisting on this presence, under the government of Daniel Noboa, ignores popular will, puts national sovereignty at risk and could turn Ecuador into a strategic point for regional conflicts, affecting peace in Latin America and the Caribbean.
