Creation of the National Cybersecurity Council published in the Official Gazette

In Official Gazette No. 42,939, Decree No. 4,975 of the Presidency of the Republic was published, creating the National Cybersecurity Council, on a permanent basis as an advisory and consultative body under the Head of State with regard to the prevention of criminal uses of communication and information technologies.
According to information from Venezolana de Televisión, the decree, which was published in a gazette dated August 12, 2024, highlights that the country has been the victim of cyberattacks that have affected key sectors such as the oil industry, electricity supply and electoral processes.
In addition, it warns that tycoons and technology companies use technology for criminal activities, cyberterrorism and political destabilization.
The Council's main powers include the creation of a permanent surveillance network for telematic incidents in order to prevent, mitigate and control cybercrime more efficiently. In addition, the agency will have the capacity to request information from public and private entities.
