Cuba and Bolivia will join the BRICS as partner countries as of January 1, 2025, according to a statement by the Deputy Foreign Minister of the Russian Federation, Sergey Ryabkov.
“(Bolivia and Cuba) are part of the group that has received an invitation. We are sure that everything will work out when it comes to joining (BRICS) as partner states,” Riabkov told the Izvestia newspaper.
The Russian Deputy Minister added that the coordination process with the invited States is still ongoing, but will be completed before the Russian presidency in the association ends.
“Of course, there is no turning back, nor can there be. For all the invited countries, this is a big and serious prospect, so there are only a few days left, after which the corresponding list will be made public,” said Riabkov.
The BRICS leaders specified the list of partner countries at the Summit held in the Russian city of Kazan from October 22 to 24.
In turn, Kremlin advisor Yuri Ushakov commented on December 11 that the list included 13 countries. The representatives of Belarus and Bolivia confirmed that their countries were in it.
