The 46th edition of the New Latin American Film Festival in Havana opened its doors this Thursday with messages of support for the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, in the midst of a context marked by the interventionist threats of U.S. imperialism.
The inauguration took place at the Chaplin Cinema, where recognition was given to the Festival of New Latin American Cinema in Havana as part of the official opening of the film day. The competition will conclude on December 12 and includes 222 works on display, of which 114 will compete for the highest award, the Choir Prize.
In this edition, tribute is paid to the centenary of Alfredo Guevara, a key figure in the international projection of Cuban cinema and in cultural exchange with other nations. At the same time, the director of the event, Tania Delgado Fernández, stressed that Guevara encouraged Cuban cinema to occupy a top place on the international scene and also granted the possibility for other nations to experience this feedback process between different cultures.
Among the programming proposals is “The Secret Agent”, directed by Brazilian director Kleber Mendonça Filho and starring Wagner Moura, a production that has received international critical acclaim. The organizing committee reported that the number of works received remains high for the fourth consecutive year, with more than 2,000 proposals, including 1,631 films from 42 countries, in addition to posters and scripts.
