This Wednesday, the Minister of Energy and Mines of Cuba, Vicente de la O Levy, reported on the restoration of electricity generation after the total disconnection of the National Electroenergy System (SEN) that occurred in the early morning, and assured that generation islands have already been activated in several provinces to progressively increase the number of energized circuits.

In an appointment from Telesur to the National Channel, De la O Levy specified that the disconnection occurred at 02:00 in the morning (local time) due to an automatic failure in the Antonio Guiteras thermoelectric power plant (CTE), one of the most stable and powerful in the country; he explained that from that moment on the recovery began, which follows a protocol to gradually activate CTE and generator sets and patanas generators (barges) that currently have fuel.

The CTE Guiteras, Felton (Holguín) and Carlos Manuel de Céspedes (Cienfuegos) are the backbone of SEN. He explained that the Felton and Carlos Manuel de Céspedes generator blocks were out of work due to breakdowns or maintenance, so only CTE Guiteras was generating to cover several provinces. The distances are very long and oscillations were caused, he said.
