The National Assembly of People's Power of Cuba denounced the decision of the United States Government to apply a naval blockade against Venezuela, a measure that it described as a violation of international law and a direct threat to regional stability.
In a statement, the Parliament highlighted that the kidnapping of an oil tanker in international Caribbean waters by U.S. forces constitutes an act of piracy and an example of the escalation of pressure against Caracas, accompanied by a military deployment that, it warned, compromises peace and security in Latin America and the Caribbean.
According to what was published on the Sputnik website, legislators warned that these actions affect free trade and navigation between sovereign countries, creating a harmful precedent for the international community, including Cuba. They added that the facts reveal Washington's intention to intervene in Venezuelan natural resources through the use of force and increasing its military presence in the region.
The Assembly reaffirmed the validity of the Proclamation of Latin America and the Caribbean as a Zone of Peace, adopted in 2014, and urged governments, parliaments and peoples of the world to reject the escalation of aggressions against Venezuela.
