In the Plaza de la Juventud de Bellas Artes in Caracas, artists, cultivators and workers from the cultural sector gathered to express their unconditional support for President Nicolás Maduro and their rejection of recent threats from foreign powers.

The activity was accompanied by the Minister of Popular Power for Culture, Ernesto Villegas, who thanked all the cultors, artists and workers of the different cultural disciplines for their assistance and commitment.

“Today we met in this Youth Square to take a step forward. Venezuela is being grotesquely threatened by the same people as always. They believe that with ships and military forces they will stop the will of this people to continue following paths of independence and freedom,” he said.

He stated that they are wrong if “they think that by threatening us we will forget that we are the children of Simon Bolivar, Manuelita Sáenz, Apacuana, Guaicaipura, Tamanaco, the black Andresote, the black Miguel and José Leonardo Chirinos”.

He also stressed that, for something in his time, a man from “deep Venezuela” stepped forward, just as Venezuelans do today. “From that Venezuela that they mocked so much when they played llanera music to end the festivities (...) of the deep plain, Commander Hugo Chávez broke in, who said: “Enough, and for Now!” , he said.

He stressed that the powers that threaten the nation are those that seek to standardize global culture and turn the world into simple consumers.

Villegas stressed that the defense of Venezuelan cultural diversity is inseparable from the defense of national sovereignty. “There is no sovereignty without diversity, there is no Independence without culture, there is no life without artistic creation. Every day of the year we are saying ¡Viva Venezuela, My Beloved Homeland!” , he noted.
