The alleged accumulation of gases in a mine in the department of Cundinamarca, in central Colombia, caused an explosion that left at least 14 operators trapped, according to the official report of regional authorities.

“An explosion was reported at the P3 Carbonera Los Pinos Mine, located in the Peñas de Boquerón sector, in the municipality of Sutatausa, apparently due to the accumulation of gases,” said the governor of Cundinamarca, Jorge Emilio Rey, in a post on his account on the social network X.

In another message, he stated that according to the latest report, there are 15 miners involved in the incident. Of these, 3 managed to get out on their own and 1 has already been transferred to a medical center for evaluation.

I explain that the situation occurs at the La Trinidad Mine, where the accident would have originated in the sector called Mantogrande. According to information provided by the Occupational Safety and Health professional, miners who were on duty were working at a depth of approximately 600 meters.

Rey added that there are already three ambulances in the area, one medicalized and two basic ambulances. In parallel, response teams are carrying out the review of the continuous gas monitoring system to determine the viability of entering the Ciscuda mantle through the minehole.

According to the governor, municipal operational bodies and technical support teams were also mobilized from the Special Administrative Unit for Disaster Risk Management (UNGRD) of Cundinamarca to address the emergency.
