On Monday, the president of Nicaragua, Daniel Ortega, criticized the position of his counterparts from Brazil, Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, and from Colombia, Gustavo Petro, regarding mediation to resolve the controversy following the elections of July 28 in Venezuela.

“You're dragging yourself along Lula,” he said, questioning the Brazilian ruler's recent pronouncements against Venezuela and Nicaragua, accusing him of competing with his Colombian counterpart “to see who will be the Yankee representative.”

After warning about the presence of United States military bases operating from Honduras with the presence of Colombian mercenaries, he added that he rules out Petro's support for these groups, but he did not rule out that they “organize an armed counterrevolution” against Venezuela.

He ratified his support for the Venezuelan president and Nicaragua's willingness to defend Venezuela's victory and stability.

“There is no step backwards, Nicolás (Maduro) is the legitimate president, who continues the battle of Chávez, and Chávez is the continuation of the battle of Bolivar.Nicolás should be prepared to fight to defeat them and rest assured that if that battle occurs they will have Sandinista fighters,” he said.
