The intense rains that hit Angola left a tragic toll of at least 28 people dead, according to the latest report from the Civil Protection and Fire Service. The province of Benguela has been the most affected with 22 deaths, while the remaining six were recorded in Luanda.

So far, the authorities have also reported 17 people injured and three missing, although the figures are considered provisional because search and rescue efforts are still active in disaster areas.

The material impact is massive, with more than 34,000 people affected in both provinces. The floods have flooded 6,752 homes and caused the total collapse of another 114, leaving hundreds of families in a situation of extreme vulnerability.

In Benguela, the force of the water not only swept away several vehicles, but also caused the sinking of 12 boats, of which emergency teams have managed to recover the majority after intense rescue maneuvers.

Given the magnitude of the damage, the government continues to deploy its emergency teams for the analysis of losses and assistance to the victims. Civil protection efforts are now focused on evaluating damaged infrastructure and preventing new risks, while local communities try to recover from one of the most aggressive storms recorded in the region in recent months.
