Death toll increases after earthquake in Myanmar

The number of deaths, injuries and affected people continues to rise

Myanmar authorities report that the number of fatalities due to the 7.7 magnitude earthquake on March 27 increased to 3,514. The latest report indicates that 4,809 people were injured, while 210 remain missing.

Around 17 million people have been affected by the earthquake, including 9 million especially affected near the epicenter, in 57 municipalities, according to information from the United Nations.

It was also announced that rescue and rescue actions are continuing with the help of humanitarian teams sent by the Russian Federation, the People's Republic of China, India and Belarus.

The presence of these rescue teams was thanked by the self-proclaimed prime minister, the coup general Min Aung Hlaing, who visited some of the devastated areas in the city of Mandalay, the second most populated in the country.
