The Executive Vice President of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, Delcy Rodríguez, presented “chilling figures” this Friday to lay bare the lies of the capitalist model in the face of the climate crisis.
During his participation in the World Congress of Mother Earth, Rodríguez explained that “fifty of the richest 1000 millionaires emit more carbon in just over an hour and a half than the average person, any of us sitting here, in their entire lives,” he revealed, highlighting the disproportionate responsibility of a tiny elite.
The Minister of Hydrocarbons also referred to the tangible environmental devastation, warning of a “historic record of 2024: deforestation, 67,000 km² of virgin tropical forests were destroyed. The equivalent of the area of Panama.”
Faced with this scenario, he criticized those who in the past dismissed scientific warnings, and recalled that President Nicolás Maduro, even during his time as foreign minister, was already warning about these “conceptual miseries” in global debates.
