The Executive Vice President of the Republic, Delcy Rodríguez, asserted that the Geneva Agreement is the only valid legal instrument to achieve a practical and mutually satisfactory solution to the dispute over the territory of Guyana Esequiba.

In this regard, he emphasized that Venezuela “rejects and denounces hostile militarist and arrogant statements by the Cooperative Republic of Guyana, which, under the guise of false victim, openly and frankly violates both the Geneva Agreement and the Argyle Declaration, in complicity with factors external to this controversy.”

The statement was made by Rodríguez during a meeting of the Essequibo Commission, held at the headquarters of the Foreign Ministry of the Republic, where he read an official statement from the Bolivarian Government, on the occasion of the 58th Anniversary of the Geneva Agreement.

“Despite the unwavering will of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela to continue applying the content of the Geneva Agreement, all the more so after the strong popular mandate emanating from the Consultative Referendum of December 3, 2023, the continued disrespect and lack of disposition of the Cooperative Republic of Guyana towards its recent historical and legal commitments in the matter is worrying,” he argued.

Rodríguez continued reading the statement, which states that Venezuela also rejects “the recent visits and statements of senior U.S. security and defense officials, for equipment, training and cooperation in military maneuvers with Guyana, constitute an open threat to the tranquility and peace of Venezuela and the Latin American and Caribbean region.”
