This Saturday, the mayor of Caracas, Carmen Meléndez, the head of government of the Capital District, Nahum Fernández and the deputy to the National Assembly (AN), Nicolás Maduro Guerra, led the solemn session for April 19, 1810, from the Santa Rosa de Lima Chapel in Caracas.

During the ceremony, the deputy Maduro Guerra served as orderly speaker, after being awarded the Order of the Key of the Ark, which protects the Act of April 19, 1810 in its only class.

He gave a speech with a historical account of the independence process in Venezuela and the difficulties involved in defining the country's freedom.

“The Venezuelan people have resisted with dignity, despite the difficulties and recognizing that mistakes have been made in the midst of the struggle, but they could not and will not be able to,” he said.

He also stressed that at this precise moment it is time to make history, within the framework of the parliamentary elections, of future governorates and mayors, since “when we vote we say they will not return”.

“Let us vote with the conviction that it is an act of patriotic love; the best way to honor April 19 is to keep its spirit alive in our practices,” he stressed

In addition, he stressed that communes play an important role in the sovereignty that resides in the People, because “every productive commune, each assembly is April 19 alive and acting in the 21st century; in addition, historical consciousness is part of that legacy, gives us strength to face any difficulty”
