The president of Cuba, Miguel Díaz-Canel, reaffirmed his country's commitment to international solidarity movements on
Monday, stressing that
the support received from various latitudes imposes on the country the
responsibility not to disappoint those who see the island as a reference for resistance.
Through his social networks, the Cuban president indicated that
the Cuban people will maintain their conviction to be a place of hope in the
Caribbean for all those who aspire to a better world, Telesur reports on its website.
Díaz-Canel's statements coincide with his
closing speech at the International Solidarity Meeting, held on
May 2, in which the head of state described solidarity as the “tenderness of
peoples” and a “strategic rear” in the face of the American encirclement.
During his speech, he denounced the intensification of pressure
policies in the United States, placing special emphasis on
recent executive orders that seek to suffocate the energy and
financial sectors of the Caribbean nation, as well as the unfair inclusion of Cuba in the list of countries that supposedly sponsor terrorism.
