On April 8, 1800, the defender of the Republican cause and great patriot Dolores Dionisa Santos Moreno was born, from Trujillo who stood out for being a fervent fighter against the royalist hordes that decimated Trujillo in 1813.

At a very young age, the courageous woman from Trujillo had to take refuge with her family in the mountains of La Chapa, after the Province of Trujillo experienced moments of great violence, propitiated by the atrocities of Pedro Fernández, Manuel Geraldino and Priest Andrés Torrealba, who attacked the patriotic population in the most barbaric way, after the capitulation of General Francisco de Miranda and the earthquake of 1812.

It is in these mountains that the young Dolores dedicated herself to teaching the inhabitants of that community to read and write, to sow liberatory ideas in them and to recruit legionaries for the patriotic struggle, both in La Chapa and in the surrounding villages.

The date of the death of Dolores Dionisia Santos Moreno was not known with certainty. Although her status as a woman, her young age and the lack of authorization from her parents prevented her from joining the Liberation Army during the Liberation Campaign, the story captures the participation of this fierce woman in the field battles in Las Trincheras and Ponemesa de Betijoque, El Colorado de Escuque, Agua de Obispo de Carache, and Niquitao de Boconó.

This heroine of the Homeland, a native of the municipality of Pampanito, in the state of Trujillo, was promoted to Generala postmortem for her important contribution to independence struggles.
