Dozens of political and social organizations in Italy are calling for a permanent mobilization against the United States aggression against Venezuela and the kidnapping of the president, Nicolás Maduro and his wife, Cilia Flores.

Through a joint statement, the importance of extending protests against the U.S. imperialist attack on the Bolivarian nation, which violates international law, is emphasized.

The letter also calls for a large national march for next Saturday, January 10.

Despite the heavy rain, thousands of demonstrators gathered late into the night of last Monday 6 in Barberini Square, located in the heart of Rome, very close to the headquarters of the American embassy, which is being heavily protected by security forces.

“We strongly condemn the extension of the war as a tool for resolving conflicts between States and the umpteenth and very serious escalation of war produced by the Trump administration's military attack against the Republic of Venezuela and the kidnapping of its president,” they reaffirmed in a proclamation read during the rally.

The call for this mobilization was launched by national political parties and movements, including Power to the People, the Network of Communists, the Communist Refoundation, the Socialist Homeland, the Italian Network for Peace and Disarmament, the National Association of Italian Partisans (ANPI) and the social organization ARCI, among others.

There were also members of the Italy-Cuba National Friendship Association (Anaic), the Grassroots Trade Union (USB), the General Confederation of Italian Workers (CGIL), the Italian Women's Union (UDI), as well as members of student groups such as Cambiare Rotta and Alternative Student Opposition (OSA).

The streets of the center of this city were flooded with Venezuelan flags and flags of different organizations, banners demanding an end to the actions of the United States against that nation, as well as the curb to the imperial pretensions of US President Donald Trump, which threaten world peace.

“Stop saying that Trump is crazy: it's a lucid and terrifying plan that tries to erase centuries of struggles to limit the power of the powerful. They want to return to the era of absolute monarchies. There is a war at the door, which has already entered our homes,” said a message read during the protest.

The general secretary of the CGIL, Maurizio Landini, said during that event that “we are faced with a situation that is not only dramatic but unprecedented, which calls into question international law, freedom and the rights of individuals, as well as the very concept of democracy as a tool for deciding and organizing one's own life”.

In parallel, in the city of Naples, a march organized by the Power to the People party, the Communist Network and the USB and other groups took place, which toured the Seafront of that town, capital of the southern region of Campania, in which the participants expressed their solidarity with the Venezuelan people.

The protest was held to “show all our support for Bolivarian Venezuela, for the release of President Maduro, and in rejection of the terrorism of the Stars and Stripes” of the United States, as expressed by its organizers in the call for that demonstration.
