Several sectors in the provinces of Chiriqui, Herrera, Los Santos, Veraguas, Coclé and West Panama were left without electricity service this Friday after the interruption of the distribution system caused by the powerful 7.2 magnitude earthquake.
The interruptions in the energy supply directly affected large areas of the interior of the country, where the network failure paralyzed commercial activities and generated alert in local communities, Telesur said.
“Our technical crews are deployed evaluating the damage to the substations to begin the progressive and safe reconnection of the electrical fluid,” said the Minister of Commerce and Industries during an assessment of the contingency.
Emergency teams and companies in the energy sector are maintaining the technical review of transmission lines and priority infrastructures to restore the entire electrical charge in the next few hours.
