The National Center for Seismological Research of Cuba reported that an earthquake of magnitude 5.3 occurred at 04:56 (local time) in an area close to the tectonic boundary between the island and the Caribbean plate, about 36 kilometers southeast of Imías, in Guantánamo.

The entity specified that the epicenter was 30 kilometers from that town, at a depth of 31 kilometers, reported the RT agency.

The earthquake was slightly felt in Maisí, Baracoa, at the naval station in Guantánamo Bay, in Rio Guayabal de Yateras, in Guantánamo and in Moa, all located between 62 and 117 kilometers from the point of origin.

Some testimonies from citizens, the earthquake was also felt in Santiago de Cuba, the second most populated city in the country. The seismological center indicated that it continues to monitor activity in the region.
