The president of Ecuador, Daniel Noboa, took office on November 23, 2023. From that date until last Sunday, there were 15,561 homicides, with an average of 22 deaths per day. The official strategy based on a state of emergency and military mobilization failed to stop the violence.
In 2024, there was an increase in the month of March and the year ended with a rate of 38.8 homicides per 100,000 inhabitants, lower than the record of 47.25 in 2023, a figure highlighted by the Government. Between January and October 2025, 7,553 crimes were registered, with an average of 25 per day. If the trend continues, the year will end with 9,069 victims and a rate of 50.01, making 2025 the period with the highest number of deaths in national history and placing the country as the most violent in Latin America.
The province of Guayas has 7109 homicides, equivalent to 45.7% of the total in two years. Manabí is in second place with 2059 cases, representing 13.2% nationwide.

In the juvenile segment, there were 940 homicides, of which 853 involved adolescents aged 12 to 17 and 87 involving children under 11 years of age.
The main motivations are related to selective violence and the dispute over illegal markets. The category of threats, related to assassinations on commission or warnings, accounts for 9,032 cases, equivalent to 60% of the total.
