On the occasion of commemorating the 69th anniversary of the Disembarkation
of the Granma Yacht Expeditionary and the Day of the
Revolutionary Armed Forces, the Cuban ambassador to Venezuela, Jorge Luis Mayo, placed
a floral offering before the sarcophagus that holds the mortal remains of the Liberator Simon Bolivar, in the National Pantheon of Caracas.
At the protocol ceremony, he was accompanied by the Deputy Minister
of Foreign Affairs for Multilateral Affairs, Rubén Darío Molina, as well as representatives
of the diplomatic corps accredited in the country.
The yacht was disembarked on December 2, 1956,
when 82 expeditionaries, led by Commander Fidel Castro, arrived at Playa Las
Coloradas, in the current province of Granma, Cuba.
This event marked the beginning of the armed struggle against the Fulgencio Batista
dictatorship, a fundamental moment in the history of Cuba that
gave rise to the Rebel Army, the founding nucleus of the current Revolutionary
Armed Forces, achieving the triumph of the Cuban Revolution on January 1, 1959.
