This Friday, October 11, the Belgian Chapter of the Anti-Fascist International was constituted, at an event held at the headquarters of the Mission of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela to the European Union (EU) and the Venezuelan Embassy in Belgium, which brought together representatives of more than 20 solidarity and progressive organizations that live in this European country.
The event was also accompanied by the ambassador of Nicaragua, César Castañeda, and representatives of the diplomatic missions of Cuba and Bolivia.
The head of the Venezuelan Mission to the EU, Ambassador Jorge Valero, introduced the act, explaining that fascism constitutes a serious threat to world peace and undermines the foundations of civilization. He said that Venezuela is at the forefront of the fight against fascism and that, for this reason, President Nicolás Maduro convened the World Congress against Fascism, Neofascism and Similar Expressions on September 10 and 11, at which more than 1,200 delegates from 95 countries of the world were present.
He argued that fascism is re-emerging with great force in Europe and in the world, and that it intends to liquidate all the progressive achievements achieved by peoples in their struggle for freedom, democracy and sovereignty.
The diplomat stated that fascism and imperialism, with their domestic lackeys, have unleashed an unconventional war that includes the use of digital technologies, through large global social media corporations, which denature the essence of peoples, seeking to maintain the predominance of capitalism and imperialism, now in decline.
The countries of the Bolivarian Alliance for the Peoples of Our America-Peoples' Trade Agreement (ALBA-TCP) are leading this struggle in Latin America and the Caribbean, with international projections and that is why, added Valero, Venezuela has been subjected to all kinds of imperialist and fascist aggressions.
The Ambassador reported that important events will be held in Venezuela in October and November of this year to strengthen the anti-fascist struggle, including a World Parliamentary Forum against Fascism and a World Meeting of Antifascist Youth.
For his part, the chargé d'affaires of the Venezuelan Embassy in Belgium, Marcos García, invited all kinds of initiatives to be promoted in this European country to invigorate the Belgian Chapter of the Anti-Fascist International.
Present at the event were personalities from Belgium who attended the World Congress against Fascism in Caracas, who presented their impressions of what happened at this important event, including members of the Ujamaa Committee (young people of African descent) of the Free University of Brussels, the Association of Refugees of Latin America and the Caribbean in Belgium (ARLAC), Front des Meres (Mother's Front) and the Trade Union Confederation of Workers' Commissions.
Everyone emphasized that the struggle being waged by the Bolivarian Government and our people against fascism, imperialism, neocolonialism and Zionism is worthy of admiration. They said that a true revolution of a leading and participatory nature is taking place in the South American nation, and that the parties of the Great Patriotic Pole, in particular, the United Socialist Party of Venezuela (PSUV), have contributed to the great popular organization that is spread across all poles of society.
In addition, they stressed that it is necessary to articulate an effort to give substance and life to the Belgian Chapter of the Anti-Fascist International and for this purpose, they proposed numerous initiatives and activities that will strengthen the fight against fascism in the European country and will form part of the work plan to be developed in the near future.
