This Wednesday, the member states of the European Union (EU) approved this Wednesday the proposed countermeasures to respond to the 25% tariffs imposed by the United States (US) on steel and aluminum.

According to information published by Telesur, all countries in the block, except Hungary, voted in favor of these measures, which seek to protect European economic interests against the trade policies of the Donald Trump administration.

In that regard, the European Commission described the United States tariffs as “unjustified and harmful”, pointing out that they cause “economic damage to both parties, as well as to the global economy”. The tariffs, which came into force in March, directly affect steel and aluminum exports from the EU, generating trade tensions between the two blocs.

The EU gives the green light to the first retaliation against Trump: 25% of 21 billion purchases from the North American nation.
