The European Commission's spokesman for budgetary matters, Balazs Ujvari, has confirmed that most of the first tranche of credit granted to Ukraine will focus on the defense sector. Of the 9 billion euros that will be transferred before the end of June, a total of 5.9 billion will be reserved for direct military assistance, while the remaining 3.2 billion will be used as macro-financial aid to sustain the country's economy.
This initial disbursement represents the beginning of an ambitious financial assistance plan that reaches 90 billion euros projected for the next two years. Despite the urgency of the community block to formalize the sending of the funds, the spokesman pointed out that certain key documentary procedures still need to be completed to proceed with the final signature and the subsequent transfer of the resources to the Kiev accounts.
The European Union's strategy seeks to ensure that the Ukrainian government has the necessary war supplies to maintain its operations on the front lines, prioritizing weapons over civilian support in this first phase.
This decision underlines Brussels' commitment to regional security, although the administrative process to release the money continues to face small technical obstacles that must be resolved in the coming weeks.
For its part, the Russian Government has reacted harshly to the announcement, warning that this level of European funding will have negative consequences for the eurozone's own stability.
According to the Russian Foreign Ministry, the mobilization of capital to sustain the war will end up affecting the well-being of citizens and the viability of European companies due to the economic impact of long-term debt.
