Amid the rapid rise in gas prices, the European Union (EU) decided to analyze the possibility of removing the ban on imports of Russian gas, Izvestia, quoted by Prensa Latina.
With this objective and given the fact that fuel prices have risen to 60% so far this month, the European Commission decided to convene the Coordination Group to a meeting for this Wednesday, March 4.
Industry experts do not rule out that EU officials may delay the ban on importing Russian liquefied natural gas (LNG) through short-term contracts, which was due to take effect at the end of April.
The regulation of the European Commission allows such exceptions for reasons of “energy security” otherwise, analysts admit that the prolonged absence of supplies could cause prices to rise above one thousand dollars per thousand cubic meters.
