Executive Vice President Delcy Rodríguez asserted that 67,000 square kilometers of virgin tropical forests were destroyed in 2024, which is equivalent to the area of Panama.
During his participation in the World Congress in Defense of Mother Earth, he emphasized that deforestation, the destruction of virgin tropical forests, reached an historic record in recent years.
In that sense, he affirmed that this is why the decree, the first conservationist decree of love for nature issued by our liberating father Simón Bolívar 200 years ago, is more valid than ever.
Rodríguez, indicated that climate change has harmed flora and fauna. “Hundreds of thousands are endangered, animals, flora, fauna, are seriously compromised,” he said.
In addition, he said that the demand for AI affects mother nature, given that the path of renewable energy that supports the electricity consumption required by technological revolutions has not been achieved.
The Executive Vice President recalled President Nicolás Maduro's calls to practice regenerative agriculture with healthy and organic food. “We bet that food is organic, that it is one of love with nature,” he added.
He pointed out that environmental colonialism means not only the reproduction of the capitalist model, it also means the reproduction of inequality and injustice, reflected, for example, in the figure of energy poverty.
He added that if the human species persists in hyperconsumerist irrationality, by 2050 the resources of three planets will be needed, which represents a sentence of extinction; because of this, he urged us to listen to nature and not change the environment, but to the system, the way of life and the relationship with the ecosystem.
