The Bolivarian National Armed Forces (FANB), through a statement, rejected the recent statements of the President of the United States, Donald Trump, ordering an alleged naval blockade against our country to confiscate ships carrying oil, an action that it described as a vulgar act of piracy.

In the text read by the Minister of Defense, G/J Vladimir Padrino López, the military institution emphasized that this military siege against Venezuela only seeks to bring about a change of regime in the country to seize our natural resources and not combat drug trafficking as they have pretended to believe.

The communiqué also indicates that these actions flagrantly violate the Charter of the United Nations, with regard to respect for the sovereignty of States and the resolution of disputes by peaceful means; the laws of international trade; the Geneva Charter on the High Seas; and other laws of international law.

Below is the full statement:

The Bolivarian National Armed Forces categorically rejects the delusional statements of US President Donald Trump, issued yesterday, Tuesday, December 16, in which, in an insolent manner, it threatens our nation with armed actions and orders an alleged total naval blockade to confiscate ships carrying Venezuelan oil, a fact that involves a vulgar act of piracy.

The accusations made are fanciful and incoherent, since they unusually indicate that we have stolen oil, land and other assets, which is completely false and unmasks the implausible narrative of the fight against narco-terrorism, also revealing the perverse intentions planned since the beginning of the war escalation in the middle of this year, which, as citizen Nicolás Maduro Moros, Constitutional President of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, has repeatedly pointed out, are none other than forcing a change of regime in our country and rudely seize its oil and other strategic natural resources. It's all about oil! This forms the reissue of the Monroe Doctrine, which establishes the neocolonial domination of the hemisphere by the United States.

In addition to the above, these claims flagrantly violate the Charter of the United Nations with regard to respect for the sovereignty of States and the resolution of disputes by peaceful means; the laws of international trade; the Geneva Charter on the High Seas; and other laws of international law, even surpassing gunboat diplomacy. Likewise, they contravene precepts established in our Magna Carta, which obliges all Venezuelans, and especially FANEB, to fully defend their national territory, as well as their sacred interests. Consequently, they constitute a clear “Act of Aggression”, and we denounce this to the entire world, whose multilateral organizations must reflect and act in the face of this insane warrior attitude, which puts at risk not only Venezuela, but the entire Latin American Caribbean region, and global energy stability.

Never in the history of our country has an American president threatened him so incisively. That is why today, when we commemorate 195 years since the leap into eternity of the Liberator Simon Bolivar, we tell the American government and its President, that we are not intimidated by his gross and arrogant threats; that Bolivar himself and many other processes of American emancipation taught us to fight and defeat powerful empires, and that the dignity of this Homeland is not negotiated or intimidated before anyone.

The FANB, strictly complying with the orders given by our Commander in Chief, with imperturbable serenity, without falling into provocations, together with the Venezuelan people in perfect popular military police fusion; it will preserve at all costs the current constitutional and democratic system, as well as the country's territorial integrity, the legitimate rights over its air and maritime spaces; and will irreducibly defend its freedom, sovereignty, independence and peace.
