The president in charge of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, Delcy Rodríguez, led a virtual meeting this Wednesday with the 87 temporary camps deployed in the country to serve people affected by the earthquakes recorded last June 24.
During the videoconference meeting, the president in charge pointed out that “we are already in a process of evaluating and projecting plans for housing and anti-seismic cities”, through the recently launched Venezuela Renace Plan, based on inspections of houses that did not collapse to see if they are habitable or not habitable.
“There are people who are being sheltered in the transitional camps, who are waiting for that verification. And once that verification is carried out and housing improvements have to be made, they will immediately enter the Venezuela Renace Plan to give habitability to these homes that can continue to provide a home to Venezuelan families,” he said.
Regarding people who completely lost their homes, he indicated that “they will be treated in more established camps, which will be single-family or two-family to provide greater comprehensive care.”
He stressed that in these temporary camps “comprehensive care is being provided with food, health care, both physical and mental health, psychological support in this process of loss, because we know the painful moment that many Venezuelans are suffering because they lost a family member who was a victim of the earthquake.”
Rodríguez stressed that, in addition, they are offering recreational activities for children, sports attention, attention to music, “activities that can be complemented to turn these temporary camps into spaces so that we can communally endure and accompany each other in this situation generated by the seismic double.”
