Federal judge blocks revocation of the “humanitarian word” in the United States

The federal judge for the District of Massachusetts, in the United States (USA), Indira Talwani, blocked the revocation of the so-called “humanitarian parole”, thus prohibiting the deportation of about 532,000 migrants from Venezuela, Cuba, Nicaragua and Haiti.

This represents the most recent legal setback for the Donald Trump administration and its policy of mass deportation, which has led it to invoke an old 18th century law to summarily expel migrants who are identified as “invaders and criminals”.

In its ruling, Talwani noted that the Government did not act in accordance with the Administrative Procedure Act in trying to drastically shorten the two-year deadline for the completion of the program implemented by the Joe Biden administration.

“The defendants have not offered any substantive reason or public interest to justify compelling individuals who were granted permission to stay temporarily in the United States for a specific period to leave before the original due date of their probation,” he wrote. In this way, it annulled the decision to cancel the migratory benefits granted for humanitarian reasons to these migrants, known as a temporary stay permit or CHNV.
