The Supreme Court of the United States (USA) confirmed, this Friday, the unanimous approval of a federal law that prohibits TikTok in the country starting Sunday, unless the social network is sold by its parent company based in the People's Republic of China.

The approval argument is based on the risk to national security posed by its ties to the Asian giant. The court ruling rejected an appeal by the owners of TikTok stating that the ban violates the First Amendment to the Constitution regarding freedom of expression.

Currently, the People's Republic of China overcomes concerns about limiting the expression of the application or its 170 million users in the United States.

Opponents of the ordinance also warn that the law puts at risk the livelihoods of many content creators and small business owners who rely on TikTok.

On the other hand, the owners of the social network have detailed that the sale is practically impossible and that if the law is not annulled, it will simply close the platform in the North American nation.

The executive director of the social network, Shou Chew, will be one of the guests invited to Donald Trump's inauguration as president of the United States along with other executive directors of the main technology companies.
