The 21st edition of the
International Book Fair of Venezuela (FILVEN), Falcón chapter, was inaugurated in
recognition of the honored poet, Rubén Darío Tinoco, in the historic center
of Coro, an emblematic space of national heritage that once
again becomes a meeting point for literary creation and cultural dialogue.
“Reading is our life,” said the
governor of the entity, Víctor Clark, during the opening ceremony, stressing that reading
strengthens social awareness and collective decision-making. He assured that
promoting access to books is essential for the development and cohesion of the Venezuelan
people, despite adversities.
The event was attended by the
Deputy Minister of Development for the Cultural Economy and president of Cenal, Raúl
Cazal; the director of the State Office of Culture, Inti Clark Boscán; the
mayor of the Miranda municipality, Henry Hernánde z, and the poet Rubén Darío Tinoco, a reference in Paraguan poetry.
Cazal stressed that this book festival
consolidates itself as a space for cultural decolonization and the defense of Venezuelan identity.
“The fair offers a clear message: more books, more ideas
and more community in the face of any attempt at submission,” he said.
The program includes more than 30
activities including book presentations, craft publishing workshops,
exhibitions and poetic recitals, in settings such as the Bolivar Club, the
Librería del Sur and the Balcón de Los Arcayas, where colonial
architecture accompanies the encounter with letters.
In addition to paying tribute to Tinoco at the
regional level, this year FILVEN recognizes outstanding national figures such as
Judith Valencia, Esteban Emilio Mosonyi, Marc de Civrieux, Gonzalo Fragui and
Juan Calzadilla, pillars of critical thinking, cultural research and Venezuelan literary creation.
The FILVEN Falcón chapter will remain
open until November 29, inviting the public to join an
experience that celebrates cultural sovereignty and the transformative power of reading.
