The electoral horseshoe that will be used for the elections this May 25 is composed of 4 stations, which voters must travel, without exception, to exercise their constitutional right.
This was explained by the vice-president of the National Electoral Council during an interview with Venezolana de Televisión (VTV), where he explained that the first point of this horseshoe is the identification station.
In this document, the voter presents their identity card, even if it has expired, as long as the data is legible. The system validates the identity using the fingerprint and activates the eligibility to vote.
Then, at the voting station, the voter finds the complete electoral offer, which includes the 54 participating political organizations, including the 13 parties of the Simón Bolívar Great Patriotic Pole, as well as opposition alliances such as A New Time with Unión Cambio, and the democratic alliance formed by Democratic Action, Justice First, COPEI, among others. The voter selects their preference and confirms their vote in the automated machine.
Once the electronic vote has been cast, the system prints a physical receipt that the voter must verify, fold and deposit in the corresponding ballot box. This voucher serves as a citizen verification mechanism and is part of subsequent audits, where 53% of the polling stations will be reviewed to ensure the transparency of the process. Finally, at the last station, the voter signs the ballot paper to confirm their participation.
In this regard, Quintero emphasized that the system is designed to protect the secrecy of the vote and guarantee the integrity of the results, combining electronic technology with the physical backup of the voucher.
“Electronic voting cannot be modified, and the voucher allows voters and auditors to verify that everything is in order,” he explained. In addition, he recalled that the electoral horseshoe has been optimized to speed up the process, and avoid long lines by ensuring that citizens exercise their right efficiently.
