The Foreign Minister of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, Yván Gil, responded forcefully this Friday to his counterpart from Guyana, Hugh Todd, about his new statements regarding Esequiba Guiana and the regional and legislative elections next Sunday, May 25.

Todd, in a recent speech, stated that his country “will not be intimidated or threatened” by Venezuela, so Gil stated on social networks that “Venezuela has never intimidated or threatened anyone, let alone Guyana”.

In this regard, he ratified that what the Bolivarian Government and the Venezuelan People do is defend their historical rights over Guiana Essequiba, “territory that belongs to us and whose support is in the history and documents of the Liberator Simon Bolivar. Esequiba Guiana is Venezuelan, and we will assert that legally and peacefully,” he emphasized.

Gil once again urged Guyana to respect the Geneva Agreement of 1966, “which obliges them to sit down and negotiate with Venezuela,” and noted that “any other route is an adventure without a future, without any satisfactory result for either party.”

Venezuela, which has received threats from the U.S. Southern Command (United States), recklessly involved by Guyana in an issue that does not concern it, urges the Guyanese government to sit down and negotiate. You can't talk about peace or legality ignoring the only path agreed between the parties,” the diplomat added in his message.
