The Minister of Popular Power for Foreign Affairs, Yván Gil, received this Tuesday the Style Copies of the newly appointed ambassador of the Republic of Cuba to the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, Jorge Luis Mayo Fernández, who will continue the work of his predecessor, Dagoberto Rodríguez, in strengthening cooperation and brotherhood between the two nations.

“On behalf of President Nicolás Maduro, we have received with great satisfaction the Style Copies of the new Cuban ambassador to Venezuela, Jorge Luis Mayo Fernández. Their arrival represents a valuable opportunity to continue strengthening the historic bonds of friendship, cooperation and solidarity between our sister peoples,” said the Venezuelan foreign minister through his Telegram channel.

Gil stressed that he will work together with the new ambassador “to promote development, sovereignty and regional integration, fundamental values for the future of our South America.”

With an extensive diplomatic career, Mayo Fernández served as Minister Counselor, Second Chief of Mission, of the Embassy of Cuba in Venezuela, from 2010 to 2016, when he was appointed director of Central America, Mexico and the Caribbean of the General Directorate of Latin America of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, until 2019.

Between 2019 and 2021, he worked as Director of South America in the Cuban Foreign Ministry and from 2021 to 2023 he was ambassador to the Republic of Nicaragua. From 2023 to 2025, he worked as Ambassador, Second of Mission in Venezuela, until his appointment as Plenipotentiary Ambassador to the Bolivarian nation.

In previous days, the President of the Republic, Nicolás Maduro, granted the “Francisco de Miranda Order”, in his First Class, to Ambassador Dagoberto Rodríguez, in recognition of his outstanding diplomatic work and his contribution to strengthening relations of friendship and integral cooperation between both nations, an act that marked the culmination of the Cuban diplomat's six-year mission in Caracas, focused on deepening the strategic bilateral alliance for the benefit of the two sister peoples.
