Last Thursday, the mayor of the district of Coviriali, Junín in Peru, Iroshi Erik Ureta Campos, died after being the victim of a criminal attack while on his way to work in the municipality.
According to information highlighted by the local press, the attack occurred in the early hours of the morning in the Bellavista sector, where two assassins aboard a linear motorcycle intercepted the authority and shot him at point-blank range.
Ureta was shot twice directly in the chest. Given the seriousness of his injuries, the Armed Forces provided a humanitarian flight to transport him urgently; however, the official lost his life while being treated in an ambulance of the Emergency Assisted Transportation System (STAE), in the province of Callao.
According to witnesses to the crime, the attackers wore red helmets to hide their identity before fleeing the scene. Despite the ferocity of the attack, the Peruvian National Police reported that Ureta Campos had not filed previous complaints for threats or other unlawful acts, creating greater uncertainty about the motive for the murder in the region.
The Peruvian authorities began the corresponding investigations to identify those responsible for this event, which mourns the province of Satipo.
So far, no arrests have been reported in connection with the case, while the local community demands justice and greater security in the face of increased violence by assassins.
