The former president of Senegal, Macky Sall, confirmed his candidacy for the General Secretariat of the United Nations (UN), Africanews reported.

In the middle of the year, the Security Council will open the process to elect the successor of António Guterres, whose term of office ends in 2026.

The regional rotation is still under debate, with Latin America as the region that appears in the expected order.

Sall joins the nominations of Michelle Bachelet and Rafael Grossi. Costa Rica's proposal for Rebeca Grynspan is also known, even without formal notification to the UN.

Analysts highlight that during the Sall administration, Senegal maintained political stability and economic growth, while questions persist about the management of the country's financial information.
