This Sunday, Sunday 29th, former US President Jimmy Carter died at the age of 100, according to his son.
The exact cause of death of the Democratic politician has not been reported, but it is known that he had stopped treatment in 2023 for melanoma, an aggressive form of skin cancer that had spread to his liver and brain. Jimmy Carter died in his modest home in Plains, the same small town in the southeast of the country where he was born, according to a statement from his son quoted by The Washington Post.
Carter had decided in mid-February 2023 to receive palliative care in his own home due to his advanced age and poor health. The former president himself had asked to spend the time he had left at home, with his family, instead of receiving any medical intervention that required more visits to the hospital.
The Nobel Peace Prize winner also won recognition thanks to his active role in electoral observation.
