The Prime Minister of France, Michel Barnier, presented his official resignation to President Emanuel Macron at the Elysee Palace, seat of government. Previously, this Thursday, the premier held a meeting with the president that lasted approximately one hour.
Telesur detailed in a publication that Barnier left office after the motion of censure approved by the National Assembly against his Cabinet, backed by 331 votes.
The massive parliamentary rejection of his budget proposal for 2025, which included millions of dollar cuts, tax increases and the intention that it be approved without debate in the Assembly. For all these reasons, his legitimacy was questioned and he was forced to resign from his functions.
Michel Barnier, who was elected last September, becomes the prime minister with the most short-lived career in France since the Second World War.
