The Venezuelan Football Federation
(FVF) repudiated the recent acts of xenophobia against soccer players Miguel Navarro and Jhoagny Contreras.
In a statement released on
its social networks, the FVF categorically rejected attacks
against players because they violate the principles of respect, inclusion and human dignity that sport promotes.
Below is the full text of the statement:
From the Venezuelan Football Federation
(FVF) we express our strongest repudiation of the recent acts of xenophobia suffered against our players Miguel Navarro and
Jhoagny Contreras.
No form of discrimination has a
place in football or in society. We categorically reject these
attacks that violate the principles of respect, inclusion and
human dignity promoted by sport.
Unfortunately, these facts are not
isolated. Venezuelan soccer players have been the subject of
discriminatory demonstrations on and off the courts. As a Federation, we will not be
indifferent to these aggressions that violate not only our players,
but the very spirit of the sport.
We have brought the case to
the appropriate authorities and we ask local authorities, professional
leagues and international organizations -including CONMEBOL and
FIFA- to take urgent and exemplary measures to sanction these behaviors and reinforce prevention and
reporting protocols.
Our total solidarity with Miguel and
Jhoagny. They are not alone. Behind every Venezuelan there is a nation that
accompanies them, that raises its voice and that demands respect.
And let there be no doubt: xenophobia against the Venezuelan soccer player is unacceptable and will always be confronted with the greatest firmness. It's not just an attack on a sports professional, it's an attempt to belittle our identity. Wherever there is a Venezuelan playing soccer, there must be respect. Because the Venezuelan soccer player is respected.
