This Thursday, October 16, the National Art Gallery (GAN) will open its doors to host the Heroic Memory Conversatory in Ayacucho, which is part of the exhibition “Sucre, Potter of Nations”.

The meeting, which will start at five in the afternoon, in room 1 of the GAN, will be led by the museologist and curator of the exhibition, Johan Rojas Pino, to analyze what is memorable about Ayacucho: decorations, medals and unique objects that are historical pieces of our cultural heritage and the heroic memory of our war of independence.

General Antonio José de Sucre was born on February 3 , 1795 in Cumaná, Sucre state. He fought in the Venezuelan War of Independence and in the South American Wars of Independence. He is considered one of the most important figures in Venezuelan history and is celebrated as a national hero.

On December 9, 1824, the Cumanés general defeated in Ayacucho over the royalist troops under the command of Viceroy La Serna, who had remained undefeated in Peru for 14 years. With this battle, South America was free.

Sucre obtained the title of Grand Marshal of Ayacucho and the rank of General in Chief. He convened an assembly in Chuquisaca that decided the independence of Upper Peru on August 6, 1825, which received the name of the Republic of Bolivia.
