The Gaza Ministry of Health reported that the number of fatalities as a result of the conflict with Israel, which began on October 7, 2023, exceeded 71,000 people. The official balance sheet specifies that, to date, there are 71,266 dead and 171,219 injured.
Since the ceasefire came into effect on October 11, 414 people have been killed and 1,142 more injured. In the past 48 hours, at least 29 Palestinians have lost their lives and eight have been transferred to hospitals in the Gaza Strip.
The cessation of hostilities came after the first phase of the peace agreement promoted by the administration of US President Donald Trump, which provides for the release of Israeli hostages, the withdrawal of troops from Gaza and the increase in humanitarian aid.
On October 13, the last 20 hostages that were still alive were released, while Israel released 250 Palestinian prisoners sentenced to life imprisonment and released more than 1700 detainees following the October 7 attacks. For its part, Hamas pledged to return 28 bodies of Israeli hostages, a process that is progressing with delays and generates bilateral tensions.
On October 28, the Israeli Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, ordered new bombings on Gaza, after accusing HAMAS of having attacked the troops in Rafah and of preventing the delivery of the bodies. The attacks caused more than a hundred deaths and hundreds of injuries.
The peace plan also provides for HAMAS and other Palestinian factions to renounce participation in the government of the enclave, Sputnik reported.
