This Monday, the pilots of the German airline Lufthansa began a 48-hour general strike, representing the fourth strike so far this year. The action mainly seeks wage improvements and affects both the main fleet and the subsidiaries Lufthansa Cargo and Lufthansa CityLine.
The measure caused the cancellation of hundreds of flights, raising doubts about the airline's competitiveness in the face of the massive interruption of its services, local media say.
The Vereinigung Cockpit union organized the protest, which received immediate criticism from the company's management. Michael Niggemann, member of the Lufthansa executive board, told international media that every day of the strike weakens the company's structure.
Likewise, the managers announced that they will not change their position in the face of current demands, maintaining a firm official position in the face of the labor dispute.
Despite the magnitude of the strike, the company managed to keep at least half of its long-haul flights operational during. However, tension between the union and the administration persists, as the demand for wage adjustments in the face of the current economic context has not found a point of agreement. The resolution of the conflict remains uncertain while both sides maintain their pressure strategies.
