Government authorities commemorate Indigenous Resistance Day

On the occasion of the Day of Indigenous Resistance, Government Authorities raised the flag in the National Pantheon, in homage to the struggle of indigenous peoples against colonization more than 530 years ago.

The activity was chaired by Clara Vidal, Minister of Popular Power for Indigenous Peoples, during her speech, she emphasized the validity of ancestral communities in the country, evoking the legacy of Hugo Chávez and the presence of emblematic figures such as the Apacuana and the Guaicaipura in the historic site.

The date, he noted, represents the continuity of a collective memory that challenges oblivion, not the beginning of a colonial era.

He denounced international pressure against Venezuela, stressing that external actors are trying to undermine the country's sovereignty. He compared the current challenges with the events of 1492, referring to new forms of aggression.

He reaffirmed the resistance of indigenous peoples and affirmed that, although some commemorate the occupation and extermination, indigenous communities maintain their defense and perseverance.

During the event, an offering was made to the sarcophagus of Simon Bolivar and the symbolic remains of the indigenous leaders found in the National Pantheon.

The event was also attended by the Ministers of Popular Power for Culture, Ernesto Villegas; of Agriculture and Lands, Julio León Heredia, Communes and Social Movements, Ángel Prado; of Penitentiary Service, Julio García Zerpa; of Habitat and Housing, G/D Raúl Paredes; for Women and Gender Equality, Yelitze Santaella; Water Care, Carlos Mast and of Public Works, Juan José Ramírez.
