During a meeting in the city of Santiago de Cuba with the Venezuelan Deputy Minister of Public Works, Domiciano Graterol, President Miguel Díaz-Canel highlighted the work of young Venezuelans in helping the country after the attacks of Hurricane Melissa. “It has to do with brotherhood and friendship between two peoples, between two revolutions,” emphasized the head of state.

The Cuban head of state said that efforts to recover vital services in Santiago de Cuba are continuing. “All the country's forces are at work in Santiago de Cuba to give the definitive impetus to the recovery of vital services in the province where Hurricane Melissa entered, causing great damage. This is what we need in the Provincial Defense Council,” he posted on his social networks.

The first secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba stated that both countries are experiencing a common situation: A provocative military presence of the United States in the Caribbean, which threatens the Bolivarian Revolution and alters the security of the region.”

The Cuban president assured that support will be constant in the affected provinces. “The traces of recovery are visible, although there is much to do, and we will not rest on that effort,” he said.

Hurricane Melissa, category three when it entered Cuba, caused extensive damage in the eastern provinces of Santiago de Cuba, Guantánamo and Holguín at the end of October 2025. Thousands of homes, infrastructure networks and vast agricultural areas were affected by winds and massive floods, paralyzing communities' daily lives.
